Services are for children starting from mother’s womb upto 16 years of age. Some diseases can be detected by Ultrasonogram while the baby is still in the mother’s womb. These include Hydrocephalus, hydronephrosis, posterior urethral valve, diaphragmatic hernia, esophageal atresia, duodenal atresia, intra-abdominal cysts etc. Although we cannot treat these problems inside mother’s womb as in developed countries, we can advise and ask parents to come after the baby is born and we can treat.
Newborn babies often need emergency problems which may need operation. Besides the problems mentioned above there can be intestinal obstruction/perforation, Imperforate anus, Hirschsprung’s disease, obstructed hernia/torsion testis, etc. If the newborn baby fails to pass the stool in time, vomits frequently especially yellow or green, if abdomen becomes distended, then you should contact. Older children may also develop similar symptoms particularly in intestinal obstruction.
Babies sometime born with birth defects and those can be corrected by surgical operations. These defects may not always need emergency operation, such as: Hemangioma, undescended testis, hydrocele, cleft lip & cleft palate etc. However you will need to consult a doctor.
Constipation is a common problem in children and sometimes it’s associated with passage of blood with stool. Early treatment will solve these problems easily, however rectal polyp wil need operation. Blood with stool during 4 – 12 months of age along with vomiting and pain/excessive crying may be due to intussusceptions and needs to consult pediatric surgeon. Appendicitis and gall-stone disease can occur at any age including in infant and need surgical operation. Frequent attacks of urinary infection also need consultation with pediatric surgeon.
